Question:

We are trying to design and install a cabinet, which is planned to be installed on an aircraft adjacent to an aisle.
We are concerned that the protruding wing of the stud (V26S04-4AGV) will injure passing personal on the aircraft.
I am aware that there is a stud such as a “Folding bail handle” stud. However with this type of stud, we are concerned that it will cause some noise due to the vibrations of the aircraft.

Could you suggest of a locking mechanism (for aerospace applications) with the same capabilities and the same concept with a lower profile and/or maybe even to be flush when locked?

Answer:

The force required required to bend the folding bail handle is quite high.
This will help to reduce the chance of rattling due to vibration.

V26S22 series should be appropiate.
I do not have force measuring equipment in the office, but here is a picture that shows the amount of compression that is caused on the thumb, prior to opening.
Therefore the folding bail handle should be okay to be used:

folding bail handle compression of thumb shows non rattling properties due to vibration

You can observe the color shift in the Thumb + reduced thickness of the thumb.
