The project is to fix a box of 11.5kg with 18 pieces of 15F fasteners in a vehicle.

This series will accept the weight of 250N on shear load?

Good morning,

Our ¼-turn systems are not able to absorb any shear load.

A solution might be to include something like a center pin who is able to cover the shear forces.

Les broches à ergot sont des fixations qui permettent de fixer l’un à l’autre deux panneaux rapidemandement. Les broches à ergot peuvent remplacer les quarts de tour si l’épaisseur de serrage est précise.

Les broches à ergot ont une qualité unique. Les broches à ergot peuvent supporter jusqu’à 6600N de charge en traction.

Trois types de broches à ergot sont disponibles : les broches à ergot en T, les broches de verrouillage en L ou les broches à ergot bouton. C’est un moyen rapide pour bon nombre d’application que d’employer les broches de verrouillage.

Yes this can be done.

 

Question:

We are designing a satellite.  We need to incorporate separation springs and deployment springs into the satellite. Thus, our requirements dictate a maximum force that can be applied on our springs.

What we need are spring plungers similar to Vlier SSMD51P but 2 with a max end force of 3 Newtons and 2 with a max end force of 3.3 Newtons.

Additionally, the material needs to be space grade i.e. does not outgass (stainless steel).

We can give  you recomendation about the correct vlier plunger, but need your help:
1) side load
a nose plunger is not recommended for side loads but this also depends on the application and the load it has to carry. Is it a direct side load or in an angle?   When side loads, please consider ball plungers.
2) the application
When selecting the correct part a lot depends on the application and usage (indexing, positioning, fastening, disconnecting). What is the load will it have to withstand will it be moved by hand or by machine is it carrying any weight? Also its important to take the detent in to account and the enviroment, temperature, corroding environment etc.
Detent:
Detents used with spring-loaded devices ensure proper engagement and disengagement of mating parts at a predetermined position and force. Proper detent design is critical for successful use of plungers. Improperly designed detents can cause excessive wear on nylon or Delrin plunger tips, potentially decreasing positioning accuracy and adversely affecting plunger holding capacity. As a general rule, the smaller the contact angle of the detent the easier the plunger will kick-out of it and the longer a nylon or delrin plunger tip will last.

Detent Design Guidelines
Select the contact angle which provides the desired relationship between plunger side (disengagement) force and end force.

Een drukstift is een stift met een bewegende neus.
Drukstiften zijn hoofdzakelijk ontworpen om het positioneren van bewegende delen te vergemakkelijken. Door het ontwerp van de drukstift, zal de drukstift u helpen met het detecteren van de correcte positie voor uw bewegend element.

Er zijn 2 grote types drukstiften: manueel bediende en veer bekrachtigde drukstiften.

Als je aan de hendel van de manueel bediende drukstift trekt, trekt de neus van de drukstift zich in, waardoor het bewegend element los komt uit positie. Wanneer u uw element rond beweegt, zal de neus van de drukstift op de eerst volgende positie weer uit springen, en zo het bewegend element weer vastleggen.

Veer bekrachtigde drukstiften zijn beschikbaar in 2 verschillende neus stylen: stift of bal.
Tevens kan je deze drukstiften op verschillende wijzes installeren: sommige drukstiften zijn voorzien van schroefdraad, terwijl andere drukstiften ontworpen zijn om geklemd te worden.

I believe you are looking for the tolerance of these two dimensions;

Body length, 'B' dimension is .531 +/-.015.  The ball projection, 'C' dimension is .035 +/-.005.

Typically the ball and spring, although stainless, would not be made from a 300 series stainless steel. The ball is typically 440C stainless and the spring would be 17-7 stainless steel. Vlier can only make the body to 316 stainless. Other parts The body can be made in in 1.4401 (316) stainless steel, ball can be made in 1.3541 hardened stainless steel and the spring can be made in stainless steel 1.4568

This distinction however does not tell you everything on the material as it mainly speaks of the main body material. The various elements incorporated in a Vlier plunger can come in a variety of materials. Below you may find the summary of all the different materials that can be used in your plunger. Due to it's design the index plunger will help you locating the correct position of your moveable component. There are 2 types of index plungers: spring actuated and hand operated ones. By pulling the handle of the index plunger, the nose is retracted, releasing your component from its position. When moving your component around, the nose of the index plunger will shoot out in the next available location, thus indexing the mount position. The index plunger will then apply a positive locking to your application, by securing your component into place. The spring actuated index plungers are available with 2 different nose styles: stift or ball. These index plungers can have different mounting possibilities: some index plungers can be threaded in, while other index plungers are push-fit designed. Quick-release fasteners are fasteners that are easy and fast in operation.
A quick-release fasteners can be opened and closed with minimal manipulation.
This however does not mean that a quick-release fastener is a fragile closing mechanism.
The quick-release fasteners from Anemo are highly resistant to vibrations,
this means that the quick-release fastener will not open by itself but rather only by manipulation.

Because spring-loaded devices are not bolts or screws, the maximum installation torques they can withstand are significantly less than bolts or screws. Use the table and additional information provided below as a guide for installing Vlier Spring-Loaded Devices.

Installation into Different Materials
Installation problems can occur when a spring-loaded device supplied with a nylon locking element is installed into soft metals and locking helicoils. Aluminum threads may be damaged by the steel threads of the SLD upon installation making it very difficult for deeper installation or removal. When installing only a few spring loaded devices into soft metals, Vlier recommends that you purchase SLDs without the nylon locking element and use a thread locking adhesive or helicoil. When installing large quantities of SLDs it may be cost-effective to ask Vlier to apply a lighter nylon locking element or apply the nylon locking element in a different location on the body.

Installing Into Helicoils
Locking helicoils can cause the same installation problems as the nylon locking element. You should never use the nylon locking element when also using a locking helicoil. Regular helicoils may be used in conjunction with the nylon locking element but Vlier recommends that you may still want to prototype the installation or discuss it with a Vlier Application Engineer.When using locking helicoils, Vlier suggests that you experiment with different drill sizes during the tapping operation and determine which drill size or class of thread gives you the appropriate amount of thread locking and still allows minimum installation effort.

Using the Vlier Wrench
You can use the Vlier Wrench when installing a spring-loaded device from the front end of the body, but because of its design, the wrench can break if the recommended installation torques are exceeded.

Blind Hole Applications
The bottom few threads of a blind hole are often imperfect threads and can cause difficulty when installing spring-loaded devices. Vlier recommends that blind holes be tapped using bottom taps or tapped deeper than necessary, if possible.

Using Power Screwdrivers
When set on the lowest torque level, power screwdrivers can provide more constant pressure on the slot than can be obtained by using a regular screwdriver. This may allow spring-loaded devices to be installed in tight threads that may not have been possible using a manual screwdriver.

Leveling feet are often used to level out or to provide just that extra height to equipment.
Leveling feet exist in several different configurations:
- Swiveling and non-swiveling leveling feet
- leveling feet completely out of steel
- leveling feet completely out of stainless steel
- Leveling feet with a polymer pad to avoid skidding
- Leveling feet with a complete Delrin base
- Leveling feet with a polymer base (only available in non-swiveling)

La butée positive c'est une butée qui bouge sous l'action du système mobile qui se place à une position souhaitée.

Le nez du poussoir est ce qui représente la butée positive, le ressort pousse le nez à l'endroit dédié dit butée positive. Le système est alors en position.

What vlier ball lock pins are standard and could replace a quarter turn?

We can go to very long quarter turns, but are at a certain moment limited, it might be an option for you to choose a vlier ball lock pin that does the same job as a quarter turn, remember that a quarter turn will always peform some kind of pressure to fix both plates together whereass a vlier ball lock pin has more tighter tolerances required for your application.

the vlier pull pin is due to it's long travel a premium product compared to it's competitors.  All of Vlier style hand retractable plungers are offered in both locking and non-locking styles.

The extended plunger length is an advantage in some customer’s applications.  Pull ring versions of competitors do not have the possibility of having so much travel.  The non-locking style of this plunger is also designed for smaller applications that do not allow for enough room.

Why do you have threaded inside end spring plungers?

The standard Spring Plunger line, the body is a 2 pc construction. It is made up of the threaded body and a threaded set screw which screws into the back of the body. This is the original design of the spring plunger.

The advantage of this design is that it gives the best side load force for plungers that are crimped at the plunger end.

The disadvantage is that if you need to install the plunger from the non-plunger end, it does not allow for this. This is why the other style plunger came into existence.

So the plunger with set screw (original spring plunger line) in back of body are not recommended to be installed using this set screw. They are designed to be installed at the Plunger end using a Vlier wrench. Wrenches are thread sizes. You probably do not see these at competitors because it was the original design of the spring plunger and is hand assembled. Wrenches are sold separately.
