RoHS is an acronym for Restriction on the use of certain Hazardous Substances. The concept behindCalifornia’s RoHS Law is to limit the amounts of certain hazardous heavy metals in specific waste electronic devices so that those metals never find their way into landfills or elsewhere, where they can eventually be released into the environment.

 

They have the same mechanical strength.

They are form fit and completely interchangeable and functional and come also with the same certs.

(and less expensive, and shorter delivery time)

 

It’s only the plating that is different.

Moving away from Cadmium is more and more a requirement within the industry
it’s even a requirement if you sell your products to California, and probably also other states ; it’s also a requirement when exporting your goods to Europe

You might be confronted with new environmental laws in the state of California. You were used to source cadmium plated parts. We offer a compatible zinc protection which is Chrome VI free. This makes our parts RoHS compliant, a very strong environmental directive

We are already using a certain quarter turn configuration from the D4002 series on several of our application.
Now we started on the development of a new machine. This machine will have a drawer which we would like to secure top down. As the quarter turn stud is to be secured on the top plate, the stud would be obstructing the drawer movement.
Looking through your catalogue we noticed that there are ejector springs available for the 2600 series.
Does there also exist an ejector spring for the D4002 series?

There is indeed an injector spring available for the D4002 Series.
The reference number for this product is V40G50-1-1BP.  (old part number 4002-SN)
This ejector spring is made of passivated stainless steel according to EN10088 and EN2516.

in your case:
P = 3,175mm
P1 = 2mm ; P1 is the panel thickness that determins the grommet,  1,65<P1<2,4 which would mean you need grommet 4002-OS & retaining ring V40G26-1N

However...
since you use gasket: D40G11-3K ; you need to add 0,5mm ; (the inner diameter of the grommet measures 11,1mm ; the inner diameter of D40G11-3K measures 11,2mm;  which means you have P1 = 2,5mm ; which means 2,4<P1<3,2 ;  you need gromet D4002-P-BP

the gasket, itself when compressing manually, I could compress it maximum to 0,3mm. so it could be that you are still able to install the grommet 4002-OS together with the D40G11-3K ring.

Furthermore, you need to consider that your panel thickness formula G = P + F needs to be increased also with 0,5mm.  (minimum 0,3mm when D40G11-3K gets compressed)
this means   3,175+ 0,5 + F = G
you currently have stud length 10 installed together with a type 3 receptacle (V50R1-1-1BP)

If you do not add the 0,5mm or 0,3mm, spring pre-load is higher because the spring get's 0,5mm or 0,3mm more compressed.

not knowing your Frame thickness, it can be maximum F = 15,00-0,3-3,175= 11,325mm
not knowing your Frame thickness, it must be minimum F = 14,20-0,5-3,175= 10,525mm
If you have a bigger frame thickness, you'll need to switch to length number 11

you can easily modify your current production by removing 0,5mm from the thickness of the frame, or just void to install the D40G11-3K

please do also verify the roughness of your material, it could be that there are tolerances on the surface finish, brambels,.. which add also extra thickness.

The reason why this customer asks this:

he has an issue with the thickness of his panels: some panels are thicker than others, but he wants to use the same fasteners for his whole aeroplane.  Although his panels are thick, some grommets are still loose due to thickness variation in composites.

This causes the grommet not to sit completely against the composite panel anymore.  The customer is also concerned about galvanic corrosion and insists to use this solution.  In fact he mounted himself a sealant between grommet and panel in the bore of the panel. (not under the grommet,  under the grommet we suggest to use D40G11-3K)

Camloc recommends not to use a sealant that way, as indicated in the catalog please use the D40G11-3K to seal your 4002 ring retained grommets.

The sealant application became satisfactory, there have not been any problems encountered on Camloc’s working.  Gap disappeared, grommets are fixed on panel.

Question:

The specifications in one catalog says to drill a hole with diameter of 0.688’’ (17.5 mm).
The specifications in the other catalog say to drill the hole with diameter 16 mm.

In the picture below, you can see holes of the receptacle and rivets.

The hole diameter is about 13-13.5 mm. If the hole diameter is increased to 17.5 mm or 16mm, the holes comes very close to the rivet holes and there will be a risk of tearing the pieces between receptacle hole and rivet hole.

Is there any specific reason for drilling the hole up to 17.5 mm or 16mm?
Can it be drilled to more smaller diameters (14-14.5 mm)?

 

Answer:

A diameter of 16mm is what we recommend for standard as it works even with the floating receptacle and gives enough clearance to compensate bigger tolerances that might appear with large sheet metal panels.

In this case we would recommend 14mm diameter. or even 13mm diameter with a countersink might work. Again it depends on the number of ¼-turns that are used per sheet and the tolerances that appear.

The outer diameter of the snap-on retaining ring is 13mm, so 12,5mm dia. will not work. We do not see any technical problem using a 14mm dia. hole, the best way might be to try it out, but I have to mention that we can not take any guarantee for this.

Le V50R3-1-1AGV avait une épaisseur de 1,5 mm.

Parce-qu'on a amélioré les outils de frappe à froid, on a réussi à réduire l'épaisseur de la plaque pour la production du réceptacle.
La nouvelle épaisseur étais 1,2 mm. La nouvelle pièce est le V50R1-1-1AGV.

Pour les versions en acier inoxydable on a fait la même chose: la nouvelle pièce est le V50R1-1-1BP ( la vieille pièce est le V50R3-1-1BP)

Le V50R1-1-1AGV est complètement échangeable avec le V50R3-1-1AGV.
Ce n'est même pas nécessaire de changer la longueur de l' axe.

The moment you have shear loads, then it is not advised to use the standard quarter turns
the best quarter turn that can hold a little bit of shear load is the 4002 series, as these are fitted with a grommet

if it is not a critical part, then you can go ahead with the cost-effective 4002 series, otherways, you’ll need to transition to the panel fasteners specifically developed for taking up shear strengths too

quarter turns are used into composites, however the big issue with composite is that the thickness is not regular spread over the panel. This influences the thickness of the plate where the receptacle and stud are mounted, this means that a stud that is designed with a certain length to cope with, will not work if the panel is thicker or thinner then designed (with the 2600 series, the tolerance of thickness is max. +/-0,3mm ; but your tolerance is dependant on how thick the plates are and how close your calculation is near to this value out of the table.

 

If you have a considerable amount of shear load, please opt to use latches:

To recommend you the best latch for your application depends on different criteria:

1)      Is it vibrating, if yes: use a secondary lock

2)      In which media:               outside or corrosive = stainless as a material other ways steel zinc plated

3)      Are your panels very well aligned installed:       if not: use latches that have some tolerances: like V951L or V917L

4)      If you need a very strong tension: opt for V18L latches

5)      Select your connection method to the panels: welding or riveting and select then the appropriate model

6)      …

For applications where the panel is made of fibre glass, the 4002 series camloc quarter turns are installed.

 

The grommet protects the fibre glass against wear. This is mainly an advantage when the panel is mounted and dismounted frequently. This can only be achieved with the 4002 series as it is the only series where a grommet is applied to install the stud.

 

When the stud length number is 5 or higher, a retaining washer should be used to prevent the stud from falling out of the panel. (not displayed in the image above)

V50R3-1-1AGV has a thicker thickness 1,5mm

because it was time to change the tooling, we did some improvements, which resulted into a thinner plate, of only 1,2mm the new part number is V50R1-1-1AGV

The same applies for the stainless steel versions , V50R1-1-1BP is the new part number (V50R3-1-1BP is the old one)

Both are interchangeable and do not influence the stud number length!

and if you go back even further, in the '90's this receptacle used to be also 1,2mm thick, but then it was only availble in yellow zinc plating

The 4002 series will undergo serious changes during the year 2012.

Instead of yellow zinc plated we will change towards clear zinc plated which will be RoHS conform.

In the meantime we will implement a production change to decrease delivery times.

The way we will achieve this, is by uniforming the cupsizes so these can be used for several lengths.

Although this will create some dimensional differences on the level of the cup, the old and new references will be completely interchangeable

There is one difference for the installation:

-          Due to the cup change, it is advised to start using  a retaining washer from length number 5 instead from length number 16

-          You have the choice between retaining washer 4002-SW-SS (the most used) or the washer in plastic 50W204-01K

la série 4002 va avoir des changements important courant l’année 2012

tous les références vont changer vers de nouvelles références.

Les caractéristiques mécaniques et dimensionnelles resteront le même.

C’est seulement le zinguage qui change.

Au lieu de zingué bichromaté jaune on change vers zingué blanc qui sera RoHS conform.

Les vieilles et nouvelles références sont interchangable

The receptacle V50R3-1-1AGV is made of steel with a clear zinc plated (CrVI free) finish. This gives the traditional light grey metal look.

The receptacle V50R3-1-1BP is made of stainless steel. This gives the traditional brownish metal look.

On request they can be produced in black. However you need to take into account that there needs to be launched a special production for this.

For the V50R3-1-1AGV the additional costs are starting to get acceptable for quantities of 2500 pieces and more.

For the V50R3-1-1BP the additional costs are very high so we never advise to choose this option.

I would have a question in regard to the Fixed Wing Head 4002-*WB Stud Assy.
1- Have tests been performed in regard to vibration on the above mentioned studs, and has a certification been issued?
A customer has requested these to be installed, but we have no data in regards to vibration, or aerodynamic effects on the studs.
In the event that you have a certificate in regards to the above, would it be available?

Answer:

Tests have not been performed on these products because the company philosophy is that every application is different and it’s up to the customer to test it within their own application.  Samples can be provided for you to evaluate the product.

My advice:

The 4002 series can take a very small side load compared to other series of the camloc range that do not have this possibility.  It is a product generally used in aviation applications because of it’s cost/performance/small size

If you have critical applications where there is a bigger side load, instead of only a tension load, then we would advise the use of panel fasteners.

If you measure up this distance then you can calculate the stud length number

S = 16,00 +( 0,76 x stud length number) (this formula is not valid for every quarter turn, please contact us for the correct formula for your quarter turn)

However this method of reverse engineering does not give you full confidence that the length number is correct.

The best is, if you have a part, then there should be a number on the top of the stud.

If you do not have a part we can go through the calculation with you.

When you get the value of the stud length number, you simply need to select the next one that is larger.

It has a type 1 receptacle and using the formula in the Catalogue on page F-1...G = P + F, I come up with G = 1.02 + 3.42, G = 4.44. This equates to a Stud Length No. 5. Please let me know if that is the correct method and assist me in the correct part number replacement for the 26S34-2B. nous sommes une société qui fabrique des paramoteurs drones et nous utilisons actuellement des vis 1/4 de tour Camloc sur notre appareil, que nous achetions chez un revendeur ULM.

Nous sommes actuellement en train de développer notre appareil et cela implique un changement d'épaisseur de certains éléments.

Nous avons fait un tour sur votre site ainsi que sur le site d'Anemo et nous avons trouvé le tableau des longueurs des axes de fermeture.

Vous calculez les longueurs d'axe via des numéros de longueur, malheureusement nous ne savons pas a quoi ça correspond, de notre coté nous avons des longueurs entre le sommet de la tête et le bas de la vis (longueur nommée S pour des Vis V26S01- *AGV)

Nous utilisons actuellement 2 types de vis V26S01-*AGV de longueur respective (S) de 23.3 et 27 mm et nous souhaiterions savoir a quels numéro de longueur elles correspondent dans votre tableau.

Les axes sont toujours déterminé par un numéro de longueur.
Cela veut dire que la dimension S donne une indication mais ne peut pas vous assurer le numéro correcte.

je vous conseille:
1) regarder sur la pièce que vous avez chez vous s'il y a un numéro écrit.
2) pour détérminer le numéro de l'axe, il me faut les infos suivantes:
- quel réceptacle vous utilisez
- les épaisseurs des panneaux P=? , F=?
3) dans votre cas: S correspond à la formule suivante:
S = 18,54 + (0,76 x n° de longueur)
application:
23,3 - 18,54 = 0,76 x n°longueur    5,26
27,0 - 18,54 = 0,76 x n°longueur    11,13

il est alors possible que vous avez deux axes, une avec numéro de longueur = 5 , l'autre avec 11
mais cela est à vérifier avec les points numéro 1 et 2
ceci vous donnera une confirmation complète

  • 4002 series : 150N - 250N

the 3D drawings are always with springs in the un-compressed position.  For example, for the 50F-3700 Newton series, the belleville springs can compress 0.3mm.

 

take care:

the clamping force is dependant on the thickness of the panels in the application of the customer.  if panels are a bit thicker, you'll have a bigger clamping force.
customer should test it always within the applciation
if you need a guaranteed clamping force that is repeatable then we suggest to go for the Imao quarter turns
